Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5 may form the foundation for the next generation of Alibaba models

Alibaba intends to develop a new artificial intelligence model containing 5–10 trillion parameters, as announced by the company’s CEO, Eddy Wu, at the Apsara conference in Hangzhou.
The Qwen team is actively enhancing the architecture and optimizing the data to train the model for tackling more complex challenges with extended planning horizons and to approach the level of artificial superintelligence.
As per Alibaba’s statement, the upcoming Qwen 4 model is already in the training phase, while future versions Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5 are expected to scale to 5–10 trillion parameters. In contrast, the current flagship Qwen 3.8 Max has 2.4 trillion parameters. Thus, the new system could potentially be around 2–4 times larger.
At the same time, Alibaba unveiled a new AI chip, Zhenwu V900, and continues to expand its data center infrastructure, aiming for a total capacity exceeding 20 GW.
According to Wu, the proprietary supernode M890 is already capable of supporting models with over 2 trillion parameters—such a level of capability, he estimates, is only available to a «handful of companies» globally.
