The Steam Frame virtual reality headset from Valve has finally received its official price and launch date. The device will retail starting at $1060, available for purchase from September 18.
The base model with a 256 GB storage capacity is priced at $1060, while the variant with 1 TB of memory costs $1300.
Valve refers to its gadget as a full-fledged PC. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and features 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The headset is capable of running games from the Steam library thanks to its operation on SteamOS. It’s noteworthy that the introduction of Steam Frame is expected to enhance the performance of PC games on smartphones, similar to the improvements seen with Linux following the Steam Deck’s release.
It’s important to note that Steam Frame can function both by streaming games from a PC and by running games independently. Not all titles from Steam will be supported initially, but the list will continue to grow.
Returning to the specifications, the headset includes two LCD screens, each with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels and a refresh rate between 72-144 Hz, custom pancake lenses, a field of view of up to 110 degrees, and a battery capacity of 21.6 Wh, although Valve has not disclosed details regarding battery life.
Other notable features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dimensions of 175 x 110 x 95 mm, a weight of 440 g, four monochrome external cameras for tracking the movements of the controller and headset, two internal cameras for eye tracking and foveated rendering, and the package will also come with two radio receivers and a wireless controller.
